Washington State Wine Traveler - July, 2011
2011 Auction of Washington Wines
The Auction of Washington Wines is one of the state’s premier wine events. The auction takes place August 18th-21st in Woodinville. The event, which first started in 1988, is a benefit for Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Washington Wine Education Foundation.
The Auction kicks off Thursday with a Picnic & Barrel Auction at Chateau Ste Michelle. Here winemakers get out from behind the table and walk the grounds pouring their wines. More than 50 wineries will be represented along with food from Tulalip Casino. Try barrel samples from the some of the state’s top wineries – and bid on the barrels of wine!
Friday features a series of winemaker dinners with a who’s who of the state’s wineries. Finally, Saturday begins with Covey Run – a 5K or 10K race - followed by the The Wine Gala at Chateau Ste. Michelle. Here top chefs prepare a six course meal with each table hosted by one of the state’s winemakers. The Gala also includes a live auction.
Nothing says summer like spending a day outdoors at one of Washington’s founding wineries; nothing says summer like the Auction of Washington Wines.
